Looking ahead, what part of business processes do you think will be tranformed the most in the next few years?

Gazes into cyrstal ball... Actually I think an area that has been growing over the past couple of years is around process documentation. There are a number of startups in Silicon Valley developing what currently look like turbo charged checklists. Used to provide user friendly documentation on human driven processes, or to fill the gap between a newly designed process and something we may automate later.
What's interesting about it this time is that these developers are using lean startup techniques to deliver value and identify opportunities that haven't previosuly been exploited. The solutions remain simple to get up and running, look attractive and have the potential to deliver a lot of what BPM has promised over the years.

People will finally come to understand that there are two sides to the business process coin - orchestration (a la BPMN), and choreography (how different sets of responsibilities coordinate their state).
What are the aspects needed to execute a process:
- a set of actions to take (workflow)
- people that can execute those steps
- information about the case you are working on
- supporting stuff like software or other facilities
What are the aspects needed to manage a process (or actually all the cases for which you execute the process)?
- Progress information (what is the status of the case, still on time) -> monitoring
- Ability to act when cases don't progress as wished
- process rules
- a fitting way to manage people (directive, goal oriented)
I think information supply will change the most. It's easier to find, share and provide information. Still many organizations ise paper, e-mail and see that there are better ways, which may improve their processes.

How processes are triggered will be completely transformed by the IoT and voice recognition.
BPM community as the main factor which is blocking the wide use of BPM benefits - in accordance with the 1st law of BPM (see ref1).
So far, BPM analyzes mainly isolated processes, but in the future every tool should incorporate BigData and social media integration.
Many examples have been written about how to integrate social activities to BPM (the so called "social BPM").
Social media information will probably be incorporated to processes, like customer complaints via Twitter or Support Request via Facebook, etc.
I agree with Patrick (I think). To mash big data analytics together with social is one way to try capturing for management purview the tacit work practices on which the world depends. But there are huge governance issues -- "workers" resist efforts to colonize minds if there isn't some quid pro quo. To think otherwise is utopian. It's not bad to imagine utopia mind you . . . : )
I think that what will change is the way humans interact. That will be powered by the most visionary companies that provide BPM technology.
Some pervasive technologies that can be part of our near future:
- Virtual assistants, this will help workers on contextualized knowledge scenarios;
- Deep learning, again making sense of disparate and unstructured data, which is the biggest share that workers interact with;

The next evolutionary step for Enterprise Software will be putting Business Processes as driver in hands of business people. Quick build and change with recognition good Business Processes are assets and must be under control of the business. The sales model will also change to more conventional financing of assets where the software supporting Business Process sold as an asset under sale lease not SaaS.....it is going to be interesting...!
