First Impression: Comindware Tracker

Recently we had the opportunity to see a demo of Comindware Tracker, a cloud-based BPM platform developed and delivered by a relatively new firm whose promise and intrigued has attracted such notable talent as Dr. Anatoly Belaychuk, a long-time contributor and well-known BPM thought leader. We had already heard of Comindware, being the first BPM platform architected natively on a Graph structured database. Yet when Dr. Belaychuk joined last year as Comindware’s BPM Evangelist, our interest was piqued and we asked for comprehensive demonstration. This review is based on that demo as well as our follow up research and independent validation.

First Impression: Appian and the BPM-based Application Platform

Appian Corporation

The trend for our “First Impression” series has been to introduce new products and vendors in BPM, and Appian of course is one of the most recognized brands in the space. Yet Appian has had by any measure a transformative year, and over the last 12-18 months has grown both organizationally with 360 new hires, and nearly doubling sales growth (as well as notably over 130% growth in Cloud orders in the first half of 2014 versus the same period last year).

First Impression: BP Logix Process Director 3.0

Recently the team was provided with a comprehensive demonstration of the latest release, version 3.0, of Process Director from BP Logix. This was not a literal introduction, as we have had the opportunity to explore Process Director through prior briefings by BP Logix, as well as through working independently with two key customers. This has allowed us to understand both the potential value and the differentiating features offered by Process Director historically, as well as provide us with a unique appreciation of the critical milestones achieved with the V 3.0 release.

First Impression: IActive ACM Suite

Even in the rapidly evolving market for Adaptive Case Management technologies, it is still rare to find approaches which address the true goal-driven requirements of case management rather than simply extending the procedural orientation of traditional Business Process Management System (BPMS) technologies to address unanticipated events. IActive IT (Intelligent Technologies) is such a vendor. We first learned of IActive when they won the WfMC Global Award for Excellence in Case Managementin 2012 and then again in 2014, as well as when they received the Gartner Cool Vendor Award in Business Process Management. Among our analyst team it is important that we remain impartial, and as a matter of policy we have never endorsed any single product or vendor (nor are we going to do so today).

First Impressions in Lean BPM: Integrify 6

Lean BPM is distinguished from today’s consolidating group of “stack” or platform vendors in its focus on the quick deployment of process-driven applications (such as purpose-built forms and web apps) rather than broad-reaching system modernization and integration efforts. The latter typically involves project lifecycles of several months, and often 100s or even 1,000s of vertically-integrated function points.  In contrast, Lean BPM can be applied to targeted areas to realize immediate benefit, without imposing the deployment overhead and integration effort involved with those environments.
